Job Title:Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location:Sowton, Devon
Thorn Baker's leading specialist highways services client is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Devon. With over 40 years' experience this is an exciting opportunity to work who manage and maintain the largest portfolio of highways service contracts in the UK.
Reporting to the Senior QS, you will be responsible for assisting in the financial management of all sites and projects.

About you:
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Able to self-motivate andwork without direct supervision.
- Focused and organised, with a high attention to detail.
- Computer literate.
Your Responsibilities:
- Ensure weekly and monthly payments are processed efficiently, any disputed items are resolved, allowing site works to proceed unhindered and give an accurate picture of site financial status.
- Assist with valuations, variations, CVRs, site visits, preparing tenders, etc.
- Liaise with other departments on time to ensure sites run efficiently.
- Comply with Health & Safety regulationsandensure compliance throughout the team.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years industry experiencein small and medium sized contracts
- GCSE or equivalent
- Previous experience in a commercial role within a highways maintenance environment
- Placed and written subcontract orders
- Understands costing of labour, plant and materials
- Understands valuations, applications for payments and variations.
- Able to place subcontract enquiries, orders and pre let meetings.
- Understandings of measurement, rates, build up and cost control.
