Health and Safety Manager

Job description

Our client is a leading progressive fit-out contractor with a reputation for quality and innovation. This company operates in various sectors, including high-end hotels, prime residential, and commercial projects.

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Manager to support a major high-end project in the Mayfair area of London for a 2-3-year period. As the Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for providing ongoing health and safety support, including the production of risk assessments and method statements. You will work closely with site management teams, technicians, and client safety teams to champion HSEQ initiatives and monitor site safety performance, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 Safety, Quality, and Environment Management systems, as well as company policies and procedures.

In this role, you will report to the Project Director and SHEQ lead, and you will be responsible for delivering H&S services on site. You must comply with internal processes and stay up-to-date with the latest issue of ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 14001 standards.

To excel in this role, you should have excellent communication skills, the ability to plan and stay one step ahead, and a client-focused approach. You should also possess sound commercial acumen and the ability to deliver results within deadlines.

Role Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the client H&S Manager and other members of the client team
  • Chair internal site H&S meetings
  • Attend client H&S meetings
  • Support the site team on all H&S aspects
  • Review safe systems of work
  • Attend and advise during safe start meetings
  • Manage day-to-day H&S activities on site
  • Conduct workplace inspections and report findings
  • Conduct investigations into accidents or incidents
  • Manage on-site occupational health
  • Coordinate training for project staff
  • Contribute to the maintenance of ISO 45001

Role Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in a client-facing role 
  • A technically-aware team player with experience providing health and safety support in the construction and building services sectors 
  • Proficiency in IT and report writing

Desirable Qualifications

  • 5 years of H&S experience within the construction sector
  • CSCS Professional card 
  • Chartered status
